First thing first: I am a follower of Jesus Christ. That is by far the most important thing you need to know about me, because knowing Christ gives me strength to be who He made me to be. Because of this relationship I have as God’s special redeemed child (for more, see Worldview), I have confidence and peace to live each day, step by step, moving forward with purpose. It’s an amazing way to live, truly–and it’s the only way to live!
What else? Well, I love to read and to write. The written word dominates a large part of my life, whether in daily journaling, writing poetry, reading Jane Austen or my current favorite fantasy, composing elements of my fantasy world, or any other writing-related pursuit. I've published a few poems, as well as my debut novel, Red Sun Blue Earth. It tells the story of a teen girl who survives Japan's 2011 tsunami.
Also, I deeply enjoy any artistic pursuit, whether drawing in pencil or charcoal or pastel, painting in acrylic or gauche or oils or watercolor, molding in clay, photography, fiddling around on photoshop, and much more. Even though I nearly give up several times in the course of most projects, I love how the final result is often unexpectedly beautiful and surprising.
A few more things about me: I was born in Japan, and lived there twelve years. Much of my heart and writing are still rooted in the formal, beautiful, and natural Japanese culture. I speak Japanese and I’ll occasionally write some poetry in Japanese. Writing in another language can be difficult, because sometimes the sounds and flow are different from English. Still, I love the challenge!
I’ve also lived for five years in Singapore. The speed and pace of the city thrill me, though I also love the calm and peace of the country. Singapore is extremely beautiful, modern, and safe, so it provides an excellent area to learn and grow. Right now, I divide my time between England and the US.
I look forward to the many other journeys my future may bring me.
